Monkey Bread

Last night for New Years Eve, I decided to make a big breakfast for dinner (or brinner as Shellie would say). I made a breakfast casserole, waffles, bacon, raspberry muffins, fruit salad, and monkey bread!

The first time I ever made monkey bread was in middle school in home economics. I thought that everyone knew what monkey bread was and made it all the time growing up. To my surprise, none of our friends had ever had it before and Joe thought it was another name for banana bread! If you've never made this treat, make it soon! It's so very good and easy to make.

MONKEY BREAD
  • 3 tubes refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease one bundt pan. Mix white sugar and cinnamon in a plastic bag. Cut biscuits into quarters. Shake 6 to 8 biscuit pieces in the sugar cinnamon mix. Arrange pieces in the bottom of the prepared pan. Continue until all biscuits are coated and placed in pan. If using pecans, arrange them in and among the biscuit pieces as you go along.

In a small saucepan, melt the butter with the brown sugar over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute (don't go longer or it will harden). Pour over the biscuits.
Bake for 35 minutes (put a cookie sheet underneath in case it expands over the bundt pan). Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a plate. Do not cut! The bread just pulls apart.

That sounds delicious! I've actually never had monkey bread, either, and didn't know what it was until this year -- well, LAST year, I mean. I'm definitely going to try it now, though!
